The Filipino Hospitality

*I originally posted this article as a culture story in my Livemocha account. So fine, call it a repost. XD

I know, being hospitable or welcoming isn't unique for us Filipinos. But since we were known to be this since back then, I just would like to share some instances that show how and why are we known to be as such. Enjoy!

Our homes have always been open to visitors; even the unexpected ones. When we have visitors, we always try our best to make them feel at home and comfortable. We even try to offer our humblest homes to those who have no place to stay, say, for a night. We have utensils and certain stuff that are intended for visitors' use only. And when it's meal time, you will for sure hear the expression "Tara, kain tayo!" or just "Kain tayo!" being said to you. This means, "Come on, let's eat!". To us, this has also become a form of greeting; a way to show respect and to actually share what we have on the table. We consider it very rude to eat without asking the people around to join and eat too. Moreover, we were also known to smile. A lot. Despite all the problems and hardships this country is facing, its people still manage to find reasons to smile, crack a joke, and laugh. Uhm, what else. Hehe. Filipinos really love entertaining foreign visitors. We really take the time to entertain and do some chatting with you. We love to have fun, so better prepare yourself for some karaoke session. :)

Okay, I guess I'll end it here. Thank you guys for reading. :)
